SMSU hosted the 2026 NCAA Division II Super Region V championship at the R/A Facility in Marshall on February 27-28, a field of 10 NSIC schools plus Upper Iowa with five teams ranked in the NWCA top 25. Mustang results published on the live update page were consolation-bracket runs: Bronson Richins won his opening bout at 141, DJ Rock won twice by fall at 184 and Evan Thompson won by fall at 285. Under head coach Chayse Jackson the program is 13-45 across five seasons with two NCAA national qualifiers, one All-American, two All-NSIC first-team wrestlers, 21 NWCA Scholar All-Americans and 27 Academic All-NSIC honorees. The 2025-26 dual wins came against Dakota Wesleyan, Minot State and Jamestown.
